Mummy Dearest

This Mother's Day, we are taking the chance to pay homage to the superhero in our lives - mummy dearest!
There's something amazing about all mummies out there; their abilities to juggle multiple hats, their ability to offer comfort, their endless giving and so much more.

We speak to Cheryl, a mummy of 2 adorable kids, a full-time working mum who is also an entrepreneur!

1) Could you introduce yourself to our followers?

Hello! I’m Cheryl, the founder of With March Love. When I’m not being a mom, or packing orders for my lovely customers, I’m hustling as a full time Physiotherapist. I specialise in working with the paediatrics and women population. It is from my day job that I draw inspiration for the products we create too!

2) Being a newly minted mum of 2, how has your journey been?

Definitely a mixed bag of emotions! There is no easy way to describe something so life-changing. Motherhood has definitely been a journey of learning and unlearning, re-prioritising, and being a child myself to understand my children. From conception to labour, my journey to becoming a mother taught me a lot about riding with the waves of unpredictability in life. And just like the temperament of our children, we do not have absolute control over anything.

The only way to make it work is to adapt, constantly and intentionally. One thing I know for sure – every child is a blessing and I do not take that for granted.

3) We know just how tough it is to have to juggle both work and the kids. What are some of the struggles you have faced and in those situations, what helped you to pull through?

Being a full-time working mom meant I am constantly torn between wanting to be present and needing to provide. I recall the time when I first returned to work after maternity leave, and my first born was going through a really bad sleep regression. She woke up at least 4 times a night and left me with so little sleep, I was becoming dysfunctional at work. It was then I hardened my heart and sleep trained her.

Looking back, that was a pivotal decision which significantly improved my mental and physical health.

It was a realisation that to take good care of my family, we have to prioritise our own needs too. Practicing self-care, that is.

4) WML is a business born out of your love for your daughter; share with us a little more about this entrepreneurial journey.

My daughter was born with postural congenital talipes equinovarus, a common orthopaedic condition. She eventually also developed a tendency for tip toe walking; therefore, I was very selective when it came to picking out footwear for her. It was then I realised that there was a gap in the local market for good support shoes!

So what started out as an idea to design a pair of shoes for my own daughter turned into a little business adventure, and I have not looked back since! WML began as a humble platform where I hoped to share with other parents a product that may also benefit their children. With the arrival of my second child, I decided to expand into  producing baby/toddler products that I personally found indispensable in my motherhood journey. I redesigned these essential products to make them even more practical and quality focused.

WML to me, is about impacting and giving back.

5) Anything you wished you had known before you started on your parenthood journey?

If I had known, I wouldn’t have had the same encounter with growth and experience in my parenthood journey. Growing alongside my little humans has been the highlight of my adult life, including all the joy and pains! Though to be honest if given a choice to redo life, I’d go on more date nights and travel adventures with the husband before becoming a mom. The scarcity of alone time now is something I did not expect.

6) What is your greatest wish for your children?

To grow up healthy, and remain kind even when it is difficult to do so.

I wish for them to be free of any sort of sandwich generation burden when they are older, so that they may pursue life to the fullest and live freely (and with that, it also means my husband and I are working hard)! I think having the freedom of choice is a huge privilege.

7) Lastly, what are you looking forward to in 2022?

Finding balance as a family of four, and definitely to sleep through the night again, haha!
