All About Fruits!

Hi ladies!

As we approach the last quarter of the year, we just wanted to check in and say how have you been? We all know that physical and mental health is extremely important to help us function well, and we want to encourage healthier habits here at The Closet Lover as well.

If you haven't seen some of our simple recipes on Instagram, such as avocado chicken toast or simple juicing recipes, do check out our Instagram here! We have loved seeing you ladies recreate these recipes.

To complement our simple juicing recipes, today we are going to focus on 4 fruits that many of us love. Though we enjoy eating these fruits, do we actually know how good they are for us? We've also included more juicing recipes for those who prefer having juice.

Let's explore the benefits of strawberries, bananas, watermelons and blueberries!

Strawberries

Did you know, that these heart-shaped fruits are actually great to maintain our cardiovascular health? We love how they simply burst in your mouth with so much sweetness and flavour, and are an easy to-go snack!

Here's another fun fact. Did you know that strawberries contain the highest levels of vitamin C out of all the fruits? Perfect to boost our immunity systems and prevent pre-mature aging.

Some of our favourite ways to incorporate strawberries into our diet include adding them on top of oatmeal for breakfast, having it with açaí bowls or having it juiced with blueberries, kiwi and bananas for a quick boost of energy!

For the ladies who prefer having drinks instead of eating fruits, try this simple recipe out! You only need two ingredients, and is full of healthy nutrients.

Ingredients you need:
1. Strawberries
2. Red grapes

Add them to your juicer and serve with ice.

If you have kids at home and are looking for a healthier alternative to ice cream, try making juice popsicles instead! Pour the juice into popsicle mould and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving. Take a well-deserved break with your friends and family with this simple treat. Who knows, it might be a new addition to your daily routine? :-)

Bananas

Bananas, everyone's favourite way to get some easy vitamins in, since they are so easy to bring around!

Have you heard of the phrase, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away"? Well guess what! It should be "a banana a day keeps the doctor away"! Bananas have been found to outweigh the benefits of apples, having much more nutrients and vitamins than apples.

Though some may be concerned with how sweet bananas are, they are actually well-balanced with the high levels of fiber present. According to the American Diabetes Association, people with diabetes can enjoy bananas too!

Additionally, bananas give you lots of energy! Two bananas provide enough calories for an 1-1/2 hour workout or walk. The next time we find ourselves reaching for coffee or a sugary snack, try having a banana instead!

For those who have leftover ingredients at home from cooking and am not sure how to use them, you could try juicing with them! If you have leftover carrots or vegetables such as spinach lying around, you could try this recipe out.

Ingredients you need:
1. Sliced bananas
2. Spinach
3. Carrot slices
4. Honey
5. Ice cubes

Add these to your juicer and add water if needed. Serve chilled and have on its own or with a side of toast! You don't waste extra food at home and can spice up your daily breakfast! Try experimenting with different fruits and refresh your senses before your day starts.

Blueberries

If you're on the hunt for a superfood that is low in calories but high in nutrients, blueberries are the answer!

Amongst other fruits and vegetables, blueberries contain the highest levels of antioxidants, which help to protect your body from free radicals. These contribute to aging and other diseases such as cancer. Antioxidants also help to protect cholesterol in your blood from being damaged, and thus protecting you from heart disease. Sounds amazing!

If you have been concerned with forgetfulness, did you know that blueberries can help with brain aging and memory loss? It has been found that antioxidants in blueberries may affect areas of your brain that are essential for intelligence.

For an easy juicing recipe, check out this one! Instead of calling bubble tea at work, our team made a healthy blueberry smoothie instead.

Check out our video here and see how the team made the smoothie using the Hurom H200 slow juicer. Not only is it great at juicing, but it's quiet and easy to clean up, a perfect addition to our pantry.

Switching to a juice during work not only let us have bonding time, we also receive easy nutrients from these amazing fruits! We felt less bloated and sleepy after lunch and were able to conquer our day full of meetings.

Watermelons

Similar to the super fruits above, watermelons have high levels of antioxidants that help prevent cancer and diabetes. Interestingly, the same antioxidants present in watermelons also help to prevent sun-burn! The next time you're going outdoors for a long period of time, snack on some watermelon to prevent sun damage.

Apart from protecting you from heart diseases, watermelons also help to prevent issues in your joints! watermelon has a natural pigment called beta-cryptoxanthin that may protect your joints from inflammation, and thus helps prevent conditions such as arthritis in the long run.

Watermelons also contain high levels of vitamin A, which is crucial for good eye health! Just one medium slice of watermelon gives you contains 9-11% of the vitamin A you need each day. Many of us are working and facing digital screens all day, so this is a good way to prevent bad eye health! The next time you're thinking about what snacks to get, try bringing a Tupperware of sliced watermelon. Your eyes will thank you in the long run.
